Kenya Kiambu Moran AA TOP Lot 24/01
Step into the bold spirit of East Africa with our Kenya Kiambu Moran AA TOP, a tribute to the fearless Maasai warriors—Moran—whose legacy lives on in the sweeping plains of Kenya.
Sourced from the Kiambu region, grown at an altitude of 1,650m, and cultivated by dedicated smallholder farmers, this lot showcases the best of SL28, SL34, with touches of Ruiru 11 and Batian. Using Kenya’s traditional washed process and African raised-bed drying, the result is a vibrant cup that bursts with layered complexity.
Flavour Notes
Aromas of blackberry, cranberry, hibiscus, and hawthorn. On the palate: blackberry and hibiscus lead, followed by hints of dried plum. The finish reveals cranberry, hawthorn, and cocoa—full-bodied and intensely flavorful.

Behind The Name
In the language of the Maasai people of East Africa, Moran means “warrior.” The Maasai are a proud, nomadic tribe mainly residing in the Great Rift Valley, stretching across southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. With around 400,000 Maasai in Kenya alone, they represent a unique cultural heritage. Despite modern pressures, they’ve fiercely preserved their traditions—eschewing modern transport, rejecting the domestication of birds, and continuing to live closely with wildlife.
Becoming a Maasai Moran is a rite of passage. At 14, boys leave their community to spend 7 years in the wild, learning to defend their people and livestock. Traditionally, their final trial was to hunt a lion using only a spear—a practice now outlawed since 2012 for conservation reasons. Today, warrior status is earned through ceremonial competitions that still honor the courage, discipline, and freedom of the original trials.
